Reborn Dolls on Dr. Phil

Back on December 10, 2008, the all-too-famous Dr. Phil did a show titled “Obsessions,” which was focused on the hobby of collecting reborn dolls. If you didn’t get a chance to see it or forget what was covered (heck it was 5 years ago), you can view parts of the show directly below. It’s a couple of short YouTube videos that are well worth watching if you’re into the hobby or are thinking about starting.

About The Reborn Doll “Obsessions” Show on Dr. Phil

As a reborn doll artist and collector myself, I actually found the show to actually be somewhat offensive. With the show titled “Obsessions,” you can bet that good ol’ Dr. Phil is going to take a shot or two at people participating in the hobby, and unfortunately that’s exactly what he does. During the first segment, he talks to his “correspondent” who visited a popular reborner’s home and workplace. The correspondent said that the name “reborners” was a name similar to what a cult would use, which is just ridiculous if you ask me. Dr. Phil then goes on to say how the lifelike reborn dolls are “just creepy.”

After Dr. Phil gives his opinion on reborn dolls for a bit, we finally get to see some an actual collector come up on his stage to explain what these dolls are and why people are interested in the hobby. The collector, Catherine, brings one of her reborns up on stage and explains to Dr. Phil how difficult it is to transform a traditional toy doll into a lifelike reborn. I have to say chose a pretty amazing reborn to take on stage, as it looks like an actual baby.

So, do you think Dr. Phil was justified in calling reborn dolls creepy? I guess it’s ultimately a personal decision whether or not you believe these dolls are creepy, but to me it seems a little outlandish. After Catherine talks about her reborn dolls, Dr. Phil then goes on to say how he believes the reborn dolls are changing the way she thinks. In the end, though, Dr. Phil says that it isn’t actually an obsession, but that it’s a hobby instead.

Sorry to hear about your loss Lorrie, but I’m glad there’s some sense of comfort from your reborn doll. Great idea on using them to display your accessories too!
