My Reborn Doll Morning Routine

The reborn doll hobby involves more than just collecting the cutest, most realistic dolls you can find. To really enjoy everything this unique hobby has to offer, you should spend some time pampering and playing with them. After all, what good is collecting dolls if you aren’t going to play with them? Having a morning routine with your reborn doll is one of the many ways you can enjoy them. Here, I’m going to share with you my personal reborn doll morning routine and what it involves.

Morning Stuff

Before I go into the details about my morning routine, let me first say that there’s no wrong way to do it. As long as you enjoy the time spent with your reborn dolls, then you have a good routine. Some collectors stress about every little detail without taking the time to truly enjoy their dolls. As the old saying goes — stop and smell the roses — holds true with the reborn doll hobby. So, don’t sweat the little stuff and enjoy your beautiful reborn dolls for the fun and uniqueness they provide.

Step #1 – Removing Their Clothes

When I’m ready to get going in the morning, I first walk over to my reborn doll nursery (yes, I have an area dedicated to the hobby) and choose one of my latest reborn dolls. Some people may have a morning routine for all their dolls, but I stick with one at a time. When you have as many dolls as I have, trying to take care of each and every one is nearly impossible, especially when you have work and other day-to-day responsibilities. Whether or not you want to do one of your dolls or all of them is entirely up to you. I recommend starting with just one to see how much time it takes you.

Once I’ve chosen one or more dolls for my morning routine, I’ll strip them down to their birthday suit. Typically, I dress my doll up in cut pajamas or nightwear during the evening before I go to bed. The following morning, I remove their clothes and place them in a nearby dresser I have all nice and folded. Yes, I’m a neat-freak if you are wondering, which is why I insist on folding their clothes. When everything is removed, including their socks, I then proceed to dress them back up in new clothes.

Step #2 – Getting Them Dressed

Now comes the fun part of dressing your reborn doll up in new clothes. With your doll stripped down to their birthday suit, you can now dress them in a fun new outfit to start the day. Since I have 50+ reborn dolls in my collection, it’s safe to say I have a fair amount of doll clothes in my nursery. In fact, I sometimes think I have more clothes for my dolls than I do for myself!

Even with a dresser and chest of drawers full of doll clothes, I still have my “favorites” that I go for in the morning. These are usually outfits that I’ve recently been given or purchased. After I get tired of dressing my dolls up in them I’ll place them in the back where they barely get used. The process of dressing a reborn doll up is pretty self-explanatory, but here’s a quick explanation below.

Steps to dressing up a reborn doll:

  • Strip them down to their birthday suit (AKA naked).
  • Place diapers on their bottom if desired.
  • Pull up pants starting from the feet and going up to the waist.
  • Go over their head through their arms with a t-shirt.
  • For an added touch, or to help prevent their pants from falling down, wrap a belt through their pants.
  • Place a new pair of socks on their feet followed by a pair of shoes, sandals or some other type of footwear.
  • Finished them off with any accessories such as vests, jackets, pacifiers, bibs, etc.

Step #3 – Brushing and Styling Their Hair

The third step in my reborn doll morning routine is to brush and style their hair. I know some people might think it’s silly to brush a doll’s hair, but it actually serves several different purposes. For starters, it helps to remove and prevent tangles from happening. There’s nothing worse than having a reborn doll with a head full of tangles and knotted mohair. Taking a few minutes is to brush through it in the morning will keep it clean and tangle free. In addition, it’s also a fun activity that I, and many other doll collectors, enjoy doing on a daily basis.

I don’t focus too much of my time or energy on brushing and styling my reborn doll’s hair in the morning. Instead, run a brush through it a couple of quick times. When I’m finished, I may or may not add some styling product to it. Leave-in conditioner works wonders in reborn mohair, which is why I highly recommend it to collectors and doll artists. You can read more about how to style a reborn doll’s hair here.

Step #4 – Moving and Adjusting

The fourth and final step in my reborn doll morning routine is to move them around into a new position. For instance, if my doll was resting peacefully in a crib, I may move them over to a rocking chair or stroller for the day. On other days, I’ll take them completely out of the nursery so I can show them off to friends and other reborn doll enthusiasts.

What About Night Time?

My nighttime routine is pretty basic and only takes a couple of minutes. Without going into all of the details, I basically dress my reborn doll back up in pajamas and lay them down in a crib. I’m lucky enough to have a nursery room dedicated to my reborn dolls, so there’s plenty of storage space for keeping all of their clothes and accessories tucked away without having them strewn out on the floor.

I’m planning on getting a reborn girl for my daughter but I don’t know weather I should get a crib or a bassinette or a crib for her doll. Her room is pretty small.

      Hey Jessica,

If you can remove your reborn doll’s head, you should be able to superglue a neo magnet directly behind the lips. See this post for more information. Hope that helps!

thank you for the free patterns. I have just staertd doing this amigurumi crochet and I ‘ve only tried the simplest ones. I’ve never done dolls with hair but I would like to try. I will use your patterns as I have a new granddaughter and I can’t wait for her to play with my attempts.
