How To Pierce a Reborn Doll’s Ears

Piercing your reborn doll’s ears is a quick and easy procedure that allows you to accessorize them with your own personal touch. Once the holes are properly made, you can place add a pair of cute earrings to your reborn to set them apart from the rest. Pierced ears are just another element that adds to the overall realism and beauty of reborn dolls, which is why so many collectors and artists prefer them over non-pierced ears.

If you plan on piercing your reborn’s ears, though, you’ll need to follow the steps listed below to ensure you don’t damage them during the process. It’s all too common for individuals to make holes that are too large or even tear through their ears, resulting in extensive damage that’s oftentimes expensive and difficult to repair. Trust me, you don’t want to end up tearing your doll’s ears just because you wanted to accessorize them in a pair of earrings. The bottom line is that you have to pierce your reborn’s ears in a specific manner to prevent such damage from happening.

Should I Pierce My Reborn’s Ears?

Before you grab the needle and make the commitment, ask yourself if you truly want your reborn’s ears pierced. Once the needle goes through and the holes are created, it’s permanent and there’s no turning back without replacing the ears. Ultimately, piercing your reborn doll’s ears is a personal decision that only you can make. Some people prefer the cute accessorized look that a pair of earrings provide, while others prefer the natural look of non-pierced ears. If you’re on the fence about piercing your reborn’s ears, take a minute to look at examples of the two side-by-side and then make a decision.

A little-known advantage to piercing your reborn doll’s ears is that gives you the chance to spend more time with them. Even if it only takes you 5v minutes to put a new pair of earrings on your reborn, that’s still bonding time that allows you to create a connection to your reborn. It may sound silly, but having a strong bond with your reborn is healthy and allows you to appreciate all of the hard work that went into creating it.

What You’ll Need

Once you’ve made the decision to pierce your reborn’s ears, you’ll need to pick up a few basic supplies. You can find most of these at your local Wal-Mart, or you can purchase them online from various retailers and shops. Here’s what you’ll need to get started:

  • A pair of earrings, preferably thin and small to prevent damaging your reborn.
  • Safety pin or ultra-thin needle
  • Pocket lighter
  • Fine-tip Sharpie or black pen
  • Small washcloth

Piercing Your Reborn’s Ears

When you’re ready to pierce your reborn’s ears, take them to the dining room or office where you can place them on a table to work on them. This will make it ten times easier than if you are standing up trying to pierce their ears. Make sure you’ve got a comfortable chair ready facing the table where your reborn is. Ideally, your reborn should be at eye level where you don’t have to strain or bend your neck to access them.

Once your reborn doll is propped up on the table, take a washcloth and run it under the warm water faucet until it’s damp. Use this damp wash cloth to gently wipe down your reborn’s ears to remove any dirt or dust that’s accumulated on them. Even if you can’t see, chances are there’s a thin layer of dust on their ears. While this usually won’t cause any problems when you pierce their ears, it can sometimes leave black marks behind as a result of the heat. The minute or two it takes to clean their ears beforehand will prevent this from happening.

Decide where exactly you want your reborn’s ears pierced and then mark the area using a fine-tip pen. Remember, you want them to be symmetrical and even on both sides; otherwise, your reborn simply won’t look right with a pair of earrings in. Unfortunately, there’s no easy way to make the holes in the exact same spot on both sides, so you’ll have to use your best judgment. Make a single mark on each ear where you want the piercing to be and proceed to the next step.

Next, use the same damp washcloth you used to clean your reborn doll’s ears to hold the blunt end of the needle or safety pin while you light the sharp end using the lighter. Continue holding the flame on it for about 5 or 6 seconds, as this makes it easier to go through the vinyl. Now immediately take the hot needle and slide it directly through the holes marked on both of the ears as fast as you can. When the holes are completed, take the earrings and run them through your reborn’s ears. As long as you did this in a timely manner, the ears should still be warm, allowing the earrings to go through with ease. Congratulations! You’ve just pierced your reborn’s ears!

It is not scary at all. All that is scary is if u think that u are just going to mess up ur dolls ears.
