Dolls From The Dark Side – Reborn Vampires, Zombies and Clowns, Oh My!

Whisper

Not all reborn dolls are made to look as cute and adorable as a newborn baby. The Twisted Beanstalk Nursery takes a fresh approach to the hobby by offering some rather unique creations that some people may find shockingly dark and twisted. Instead of the same baby boy and girl dolls that collectors are used to seeing every day, they focus on other-worldly reborns including vampires, zombies and clowns.

About The Twisted Beanstalk Nursery

Former Washington state hairdresser turned to doll artist Bean Shanine is the owner of The Twisted Beanstalk Nursery (hence the word Bean). Like several other full-time reborners, Shanine got started in the hobby by purchasing and completing a doll from a reborn kit. The only difference, however, was that her kit was for a zombie baby, and thus her passion for uniquely dark reborns continued to grow.

Bean has only been producing dolls for a little over a year, but has quickly filled an open niche that was previously left void. After her first doll sold within minutes of posting the eBay auction, Bean knew she was onto something with her creations. It wasn’t long before collectors from all parts of the world were eagerly requesting her unique dolls that no one else offered.

What Makes Them So Special?

Bean Shanine isn’t the first artist to attempt the creation of a reborn vampire or monster. In fact, ghoulish dolls such as these have been available long before she began reborning, so what makes her so special? The answer to this question is simple – it’s the level of detail and commitment that goes into each and every one of her dolls. The vampire dolls have glowing orange eyes, a pale complexion and two subtle fangs protruding out the corners of their mouth, all of which create an appearance that’s unlike any other.

According to her website, Bean invests a solid eight hours each day into her reborning hobby. A typical doll can take upwards of 20-30 hours to complete, so it’s not a quick process. In addition, each doll Bean offers through her site is completely unique and unlike any other. If you decide to purchase one, you can rest assured knowing that no one else is going to have your same doll.

Of course the dolls from The Twisted Beanstalk Nursery aren’t overly horrific or disgusting. In all actuality, one could argue that they are cute in their own uniquely twisted kind of way. They don’t come wielding a blood-covered butcher axe, but instead they are simply unique doll creations made to look like a little different than your ordinary reborn (check below for more pictures).

So, how much does a reborn vampire or zombie cost at The Twisted Beanstalk Nursery? Prices vary from $400 to $2,000, but most fall somewhere around the $650 range.

The Zombie and Vampire Craze Continues…

In the past few years, there’s been a growing cult-like popularity surrounding vampires and zombies. Television shows including The Walking Dead, True Blood and The Vampire Diaries have only fueled the fire for these subjects. There’s even a new zombie movie coming out starring Brad Pitt that’s expected to hit theaters in the summer of 2013.  This growing demand is sure to keep Bean busy working at The Twisted Beanstalk Nursery.

Many people assume collectors only want traditional dolls that look like your average baby, but The Twisted Beanstalk Nursery has proven this isn’t the case. Bean Shanine has successfully created a niche business offering people a different kind of reborn dolls. Whether you like them or not, there’s no denying the skill it takes to make dolls such as hers.

These are better than regular baby reborns, which are very boring baby substitutes. These are fun. I’m gonna want one or two or three. Love them.

I think they’re cute. Of course, some of us have an imagination that belongs on the fantastical side of the world.
